Apple Inc. is holding a highly anticipated event, “Come See Our Latest Creation,” Wednesday at 10am at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco.
Steve Jobs is expected to announce the Apple Tablet, a 10-inch device that can function just like your iPod Touch and iPhone.
Newspapers are especially excited about Apple’s announcement.
According to a recent NYTimes article, the Tablet will “have a persistent wireless connection over 3G cellphone networks and Wi-Fi, and will be built with a 10-inch color display, allowing newspapers, magazines and book publishers to deliver their products… ”
In addition, it’s rumored that the NYTimes is already developing a newspaper version for the Tablet.
The Tablet undoubtedly will also shake up the eReader market. Why will you need a dedicated eReader like Nook or Kindle when a Tablet can display books and run any of Apple’s apps?
Apple’s Tablet is expected to be around $700, a steep estimate but Apple may surprise us tomorrow.
Verizon Wireless may also announce a new agreement with Apple and could start offering the iPhone this year. AT&T currently has exclusive rights for iPhone service.
Yes, I will still need my kindle. 10″ is way too big and heavy for me to lug around. My kindle is the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. Not to mention the $700 price tag! I hemmed and hawed for months before dropping $400 on the kindle 1 back in 2007. No way could I do $700. Especially these days!

Looks interesting enough to give it a try. I’m addicted to my Kindle for a number of reasons. Frankly, one reason is that it isn’t a laptop, it’s simply a reading device. It has other functionality I haven’t tried .. because I simply want to read newspapers and books on it. No distractions. On the other hand, a larger version of the iPhone has some benefits. Will I be able to make calls on it? Kinda hard to hide when you’re making a call in the car with the tablet pressed against your ear!

There’s speculation about video calling. More after tomorrow’s event!

I am excited about anything Apple. I’ve been waiting for this a couple of years. I like to read and turn pages but if this does what it is anticipated to do, i’ll seriously consider getting it. I like the larger size for a reader, harder to lose. i like my iTouch but I would like a bigger screen, old eyes need bigger print. Way to go Apple (you do everything better!!!)
